ViewShift

ViewShift is a flexible engine for effects where a shot that contains at least a partial 3D reconstruction can be reimaged from other viewpoints. You might use it for tasks such as these:

Removing objects from a scene

Combining split takes

Creating minor object placement changes

Selective time shifts (that don't require sub-frame interpolation)

Animated UV texture map extraction (ie to sequences)

Most of the time, ViewShift isn't going to generate "final" results for you; you'll probably use it with a downstream compositing app to incorporate a variety of effects. ViewShift can generate elements for you, and quick previews for them. You might still have to do some paint work too.

ViewShift is a tool: it performs certain algorithms that you can use as the situation warrants, it's not a black box that does just one or two things and nothing else. We're sure that SynthEyes users will come up with some wild and crazy ways to use ViewShift.

While advanced users can come do ViewShift effects in other 3D applications, the total feature set in ViewShift, including amenities such as illumination matching and multiple re-timing modes, should expand what all levels of users can accomplish in a reasonable timeframe.
