Vertex Caches

You can set up a vertex cache file for a mesh, which allows it to reproduce previously-stored vertex animation, ie from animation programs such as 3dsmax, Maya, Lightwave, Blender, etc, or from SynthEyes itself if you've done Geometric Hierarchy Tracking and written a cache file.

A vertex cache will be set up automatically when you import filmbox scenes that contain vertex caches.

To configure the vertex cache, see the button on the 3D panel. Currently, .ABC (Alembic), .MCX (Maya), .MDD (Lightwave), and .PC2 (3ds max) file types are supported.

Note : Don't delete a vertex cache file that is used by a SynthEyes scene—the files are large and are not embedded in the .sni file . Only the name is recorded. The file must continue to exist for SynthEyes to be able to display the animated mesh.

Note : Don't change the name of a mesh that is being driven by an Alembic (.abc) vertex cache. Several vertex caches can be stored in a single Alembic file (unlike other file types), so the mesh name is used to select the proper vertex cache.

After setting or viewing the vertex cache file setting, you can use the Vertex Cache Control Panel to set a frame timing offset and the coordinate system to use: the typical Y-Up or the less-common Z-Up (maybe for PC2 files from 3dsmax). You can set a preference in the MESHES section of the preferences.

You can use the frame number offset to shift vertex caches that have been written with a different timeline setup. When the file is opened, SynthEyes will attempt to set this automatically based on the SynthEyes timeline and recorded information in the vertex cache.
