Roto-Panel Spline Operations in the Camera View

While the roto panel is shown, you have many possible spline operations in the camera view, lassoing, selecting, and moving one or more control points or the whole spline. Here’s a breakdown:

Click a spline to select it.

Drag a spline to move it.

Shift-click on a spline to add a new control point there.

Control-drag a spline to rotate it about its center point.

ALT-/command-drag a spline to scale it about its center point.

Control-ALT-/command-drag a spline to simultaneously scale and rotate it around its center point.

Shift-click control points to select them; control-click them to toggle their selection.

Lasso multiple control points on the selected spline; hold shift while lassoing to add to the current selection; hold control to remove from the current selection.

Drag a control point to move all selected control points.

Double-click a control point to toggle its corner/smooth status; other selected control points will be set to the same state.

Dragging the center control point will animate its position, moving the entire spline.

Click the center point to deselect all its control points.

Shift- or control-click the center point to deselect the spline.

Right-click a control point to remove a key for that frame. If Key all CPs if any is on, then any keys are removed from all control points. If Key all CPs if off, and a selected CP is clicked, keys are removed from all selected CPs; otherwise a key is removed from the clicked CP.

Shift-right-click to remove a control point completely.

By lassoing all control points, you can move the spline but not the center point, effecting a “reverse move pivot” operation.

Important Note: moving all the control points isn’t the same as moving the curve. When you move, rotate, or scale the curve, you’re setting keys only on the spline origin and rotate/scale control points, not on every individual control point. This allows you to animate the spline’s motion independently from the spline’s shape.

As you build up a collection of splines in the viewport, you may wish to hide some or all of them using the Show this spline checkbox on the roto control panel. The View menu contains an Only selected splines item; with it enabled, only the spline selected in the roto panel’s list will appear in the viewport.

TIP: Splines are also listed in the Hierarchy View; it may be easier to see, modify, and even clone them there.
