Kurves Color Correction

Graphical user interface Description automatically generated

Kurves is SynthEyes’s curve-based color correction system, which appears (or not) at the bottom of the image preprocessor, under control of the Kurves Corrector button on the Color tab of the image Preprocessor (for which there’s a preference in the Image Input section).

Tip: You can adjust the proportion of the image preprocessor occupied by the image view and kurves view by dragging the line between the two.

Note that the S channel is a bit different than YRGB: it creates a multiplying factor applied to each pixel’s color saturation (if enabled), based on the incoming luminance. The S channel defaults to a constant 1.0 factor for all luminances. Typical use is to prevent color fringing due to saturation around lights, or reduce color noise in shadows.

Histograms of the input or output values can be shown. Histograms, especially output curves for 8-bit-per-channel data with steeper curves, can exhibit “sawtooth”

patterns because some output values wind up being skipped. Kurves contains filtering options to compensate for that, see that right-click menu. It can also suppress large histogram peaks due to clipping, so the rest of the histogram is still visible.
