Inverse Maps

In a two-pass lens workflow, we need two image maps: the map for un-distorting the original footage, and a map for re-distorting CG effects to match the original footage.

While it is possible to utilize the un-distortion map for re-distorting images, it is much more complex and time-consuming—and less accurate and reliable—than the very simple process to apply the map in the intended fashion.

Accordingly, SynthEyes always produces both un-distortion and redistortion maps. It does that directly from the underlying mathematics to maximize speed and

accuracy. (It is possible to access an inversion routine, for use with maps from third parties, from within a Sizzle script, see the Sizzle manual.)
