Image Mapper

The SynthEyes image mapper component is normally configured automatically by the SynthEyes exporter. It implements the map-based distortion approach within AfterEffects.

For your background information, or in case you want to use it directly, you should apply the SynthEyes Image Mapper effect to the layer containing the image map, ie the still image or image sequence. Then on its Effect Controls, set the “Image to map” input to be the layer you want to be distorted or undistorted. That layer can be

hidden so that it does not show up underneath the distorted image; it will still be used as the mapping input.

The composition should have the same resolution as the map : this will be the resolution of the mapped image. You will also have to set the project settings to 16 or 32bit per channel depth.

IMPORTANT : After Effects does everything using a single consistent bit depth, either 8, 16, or 32 bits per channel. Since image maps must be 32-bit floating or at least 16 bits per channel, this means that your entire project must be set to, and processed as, 32-bit or 16-bit. This will affect processing time, temporary storage requirements, and even effects availability or functionality in some cases. This is an After Effects limitation over which we have no control. You can still do your final render to your desired bit depth.
