Exporters and Future Work

Fusion and Nuke exporters can export many lens models directly to a lens distortion node, when enabled. Similarly, the After Effects exporter can export to the SynthEyes-supplied SynthEyes Advanced Lens Distortion effect. For other cases, or if using the builtin nodes is disabled, they can write a static STmap instead.

The image distortion map describes the distortion on a particular frame.

Animated parameters or zooming distortion and anamorphic focus breathing require animated undistortion and redistortion image map sequences, which can be written via

the Shot menu. It’s best to stick with a model that can be directly animated in the compositing app instead.

Note that SynthEyes can read image distortion maps produced by other software (even manually) and use them to drive its own image preprocessor system, in lieu of the usual distortion coefficients etc. This is configured from the Lens tab of the image preprocessor. However, there's no support for animated distortion maps, largely because of the complexity of efficiently managing the reading and discarding of the maps in the heavily multi-threaded image preprocessor.
