Distortion, Focal Length, and the Field of View

When using the image preprocessor to correct distortion, be aware that the field of view necessarily corresponds to the linearized, undistorted, image, not the original distorted image. It is impacted by padding or clipping that may be applied in the interests of removing that distortion.

Accordingly, you won't be able to directly compare the SynthEyes field of view and focal length to any "on-set" values—which generally aren't accurate anyway, as discussed earlier. (It's conceptually possible to compute the effect of what the image preprocessor is doing, though there's no tool to do so.)
