De-Duplication Modes

There are quite a few de-duplication modes, to encompass a variety of scenarios. We recommend sticking to the "Imports..." modes in most cases where the large meshes are created external to SynthEyes and imported to it. Generally you should not change imported meshes inside SynthEyes if you are using "Imports..." modes.

With all of these, you can "follow along" and learn more by looking at the sbm files created in the respective folders. It is a transparent process. You can open those sbm files directly from SynthEyes.

Never. No de-duplication is performed. This is simplest, and best for sending files to others.

Imports. De-duplication is performed for all imported meshes, and no others. The originally-imported mesh file is re-read each time the file is opened, which can be slow. This can be useful if the mesh is changed frequently. Important: any changes to the mesh within SynthEyes will be lost if you save then reopen the file. (Vertex and facet selection data is cleared when a file is read).

Imports with SBM. De-duplication is performed for all imported meshes, and no others. An SBM file is written to (and later read from) the same folder and with the same name as the original mesh file, which makes it easy to identify and keep track of. The SBM will contain any modifications made to the mesh; for this reason the mesh is not automatically reread from the original if the original changes.

Imports with local SBM. De-duplication is performed for all imported meshes, and no others. An SBM file is written to (and later read from) the Mesh Area with the same name as the mesh's original filename. This is useful when the original mesh is located on a remote networked drive, so you can use a fast local disk instead. The SBM will contain any modifications made to the mesh; for this reason the mesh is not automatically reread from the original if the original changes.

Scene, Single. De-duplication is performed for any mesh that exceeds the size limit on the preferences panel. The SBM file will be placed with the SNI file. See the following section on Single vs Versioned Files.
