Cliffhanger Trackers

As a tracker approaches the edge of the image, it will be shut off automatically.

This is undesirable if the tracker comes close to the edge, but then moves around without actually going off the edge. Simply turning the tracker back on is ineffective, because it is immediately turned back off, and even setting a key position is only temporary, as the tracker will typically be turned off again the next frame.

To handle this situation, turn on the Cliff (cliffhanger) button on the tracker control panel, or on the camera view right-click menu in the Attributes section. This will disable the automatic shutoff at the image edge.

Tip : Cliffhanger mode will turn on automatically if you re-enable a tracker or move it in the tracker mini-view on the frame it was automatically turned off .

Once cliffhanger mode is on for a tracker, you should continue to supervise it carefully for the remainder of the shot, as it will not turn back off automatically even if it comes back on screen (see next paragraph). Be alert for situations where the supervised tracker's interior—not just search region—goes partially off-screen, as the tracker will likely require you to key it on those frames (unlike a planar tracker).

We recommend not turning off the cliffhanger button once it has been turned on for a given tracker. That is so that if the tracker is re-tracked through the entire shot, the same issue doesn't reoccur. For this reason, SynthEyes does not turn off the cliffhanger status, though it easily could. Be careful to supervise situations where a cliffhanger tracker comes back onscreen, then goes offscreen much later in the shot.
