The planar tracker needs to know where it should look for the pattern, based on how much change there can be from one frame to the next. A larger search region will accommodate more drastic bumps in the footage, but at the cost of much longer compute times, and an increasing chance that the tracker will move to a similar but unintended image pattern nearby (especially likely with repeating patterns such as bricks).
When you begin configuring a planar tracker, you should always begin by setting the tracking prediction mode on the Track menu to either Steady Camera or Hand-Held: Sticky. The first setting is for smooth stable shots, and predicts where the tracker will be next based on its recent history, allowing for a small search region. The hand-held setting is for hand-held or vibration-prone shots; there is no prediction since on these shots it is generally harmful!
You'll need a larger search region for hand-held shots. SynthEyes looks at the shot's prediction mode to decide on the initial search size parameters, so you should adjust the prediction mode at the very beginning. The default is for smooth shots, so you should be sure to change it for shaky hand-held shots.
