SynthEyes System Requirements

Recommended Minimum PC Configuration

• 32-bit version runs under 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, Vista, and Windows XP. Supports XP's 3GB mode.
• The native 64-bit SynthEyes version* requires a machine running a 64-bit version of Windows 7, Vista, or XP.
• Intel or AMD "x86" processor with SSE2, such as a i7, i5, i3, Core/Core 2 Duo, Athlon 64, Opteron, or Pentium 4. Older processors such as Pentium 3 and Athlon XP and MP processors will not work, sorry. 
• 1GB RAM minimum. 2-4 GB typical for pro, HD, and film users. 4+ GB strongly recommended for 8-core and 64-bit systems.
• 3-button mouse/trackball with middle scroll wheel/button. Use the "No middle-mouse button" preferences for trackpads, though it is not recommended. There are UI features, including click-on/click-off, to help tablet users. While notebook trackpads operate with SynthEyes, we do not recommend them for serious tracking work.
• 1024x768 or larger display, 32 bit color, with OpenGL support. Large multi-head configurations require graphics cards with sufficient memory.
• DirectX 9.0c or later recommended, required for DV and usually MPEG.
• Quicktime recommended, required to read .mov files.
• Approx 25 MB disk space to install.

Recommended Minimum Mac Configuration:

• Mac OSX 10.7 (Lion), 10.6 (Snow Leopard), or 10.5 (Leopard). Leopard with 4 or 8-core processors, be sure to use 10.5.3 or later.
• Intel Mac. A 32-bit(only) PowerPC binary is present also for legacy machines. (Lion and Snow Leopard do not support PowerPC).
• 1GB minimum RAM. 2-4 GB typical for pro, HD, and film users. 4+ GB strongly recommended for 8-core and 64-bit systems.
• 1024x768 or larger display, 32 bit color, with OpenGL support. Large multi-head configurations require graphics cards with sufficient memory.
• 3 button mouse/trackball with scroll wheel. Use the "No middle-mouse button" preferences for trackpads, though it is not recommended. There are some UI features to help tablet users. While notebook trackpads and the "Magic Trackpad" operate with SynthEyes, we do not recommend them for serious tracking work.
• The 64-bit OS X version* requires a 64-bit-capable Intel processor.
• Approx 30 MB disk space to install.

Recommended Minimum User Configuration & Fine Print:

• Keep the operating system and Quicktime up to date, either automatically or manually. While SynthEyes should work with older versions, sometimes OS vendors make changes that cause problems when SynthEyes is newer than an older operating system file.
• A user familiar with general 3-D animation techniques such as keyframing.
• A supported 3-D animation or compositing package to export paths and points to. Can be on a different machine or operating system.
• The Mac versions can read PC files, and vice versa.
• PC, Win64, 32-bit OS X, and 64-bit OS X licenses are separate (4 separate flavors of license) with separate pricing to keep SynthEyes affordable for everyone. It is not a cross-platform or floating license, read more about multiple installs.
• The 64-bit PC & Mac versions utilize a 32-bit server to read AVI (PC only) and Quicktime MOV files, as 64-bit operating systems do not yet offer this as a 64-bit capability. Writing AVIs on the PC uses only the few 64-bit codecs; on OS X only designated (32-bit) codecs may be used.
