SynthEyes 3D Tracker Continues Rapid Advances
Stereo Workflow Improvements, SSD/RAID Disk Caching Latest

In the four months since its introduction of SynthEyes 1208 in August, Andersson Technologies LLC has delivered on the promise of rapid feature innovation made possible by its new release strategy.
Including the latest SynthEyes 1212 release, major new features since 1208 include:
- multiple camera views, for simplified and accelerated stereo workflow
- advanced disk caching, especially for SSD and RAID disk systems, complementing the existing RAM cache
- a Community Translation Project system
- Python scripting for enterprise customers
- a new uniform distribution algorithm for the Add Many Trackers operation
- movie-file-reading improvements including a new Windows Media Foundation (WMF) file reader, and frame timestamp caching for the WMF and the OS X Quickime reader to speed movie reopen times.
- a new Linearize phase for forcibly straightening arbitrarily-oriented dolly moves
- a new 'Matrix' object type, which helps check camera paths
- a Lidar file importer
The multiple camera views and disk caching features further enhance SynthEyes's capabilities to efficiently handle and track stereo material, even long 4K stereo shots. The disk cache can bring large shots located across a network, or that require lengthy decompression, onto a fast local SSD or RAID drive, storing them in a format that works efficiently with the computer's virtual memory system. Both stereo images can be examined and tracked at once, and both sets of trackers monitored simultaneously with SynthEyes's exclusive SimulTrack windows.
The innovative "bring your own python" client/server approach lets SynthEyes python be transparently embedded into other applications, such as Maya, Modo, Shotgun, or Cinema 4D, or into user-interface packages such as PySide or PyQT. Python programs have simultanous direct access to both applications, without the need to set up communications channels or interchange file formats. Python support is an optional feature available to enterprise customers.
The Community Translation Project allows users to create translated versions of the SynthEyes user interface. The resulting translation files can be shared with other users; partial translations can be combined to provide more complete coverage. Both individuals and companies with international operations can benefit.
To help users learn the new features, 21 new or revamped tutorials running almost 4 hours have been added since the August introduction, and they now total over 120, running more than 14 hours. To make them more accessible, the site features a new tutorials page where the user can sort by date, subject, or sequence them in an educational order.

SynthEyes handles camera tracking, object tracking, object tracking from reference meshes, survey shots, multi-camera and -object tracking, tripod (nodal, 2.5-D) tracking, mixed tripod and translating shots, stereoscopic shots, nodal stereoscopic shots, zooms, lens distortion, rolling-shutter shots, controllable stabilization, motion capture, and light solving. A keyer simplifies and speeds tracking for green-screen shots. The image preprocessor helps remove grain, compression artifacts, off-centering, and varying lighting. Textures can be extracted for a mesh from the image sequence, producing higher resolution and lower noise than any individual image, for set reconstruction and clean plate generation.
SynthEyes offers complete control over the tracking process for challenging shots, including an efficient workflow for supervised trackers, combined automated/supervised tracking, offset tracking, incremental solving, multi-phase solving, hard and soft path locking, distance constraints for low-perspective shots, and cross-camera constraints for stereo. You can set up a coordinate system with tracker constraints, camera constraints, an automated ground-plane-finding tool, by aligning to a mesh, a line-based single-frame alignment system, manually, or with advanced solver-phase-based techniques.
SynthEyes exports to about 25 common animation and compositing packages, all included standard. A multi-export tool can output any number of formats in one step.

SynthEyes 1212 is available now for Windows and OS X. SynthEyes Pro is 599 USD; the entry-level SynthEyes Intro version is 399 USD (see website for differences). The cross-platform version is 699 USD. Upgrade pricing varies based on old and new versions; for example, a SynthEyes 2011 64-bit license upgrade to SynthEyes 1212 Pro is 149 USD.
