SynthEyes Camera Tracker Adds Stabilization, Reaches 2007½

New Features Appealing to Compositors and Editors

* Malvern, PA. April 2, 2007.

A new image stabilization system highlights the release, and broadens SynthEyes's appeal beyond visual effects artists to include additional compositing artists and now editors. SynthEyes can stabilize one or more features in the image, or stabilize a traveling shot with features moving continually in and out of frame. Animated controls allow the user to "direct" the stabilizer to change shot framing or anticipate extreme bumps in the footage. The stabilizer works with SynthEyes's 3-D tracking capability to provide extreme stability and geometric correctness, avoiding artifacts caused by typical 2-D stabilization. And by integrating 3-D stabilization with lens distortion correction, SynthEyes's single-pass design delivers maximum image quality.

Other highlights of the approximately 50 new features in the 2007½ release include:

  • A single-frame 3-D line-alignment tool for nodal tripod shots and lock-offs.
  • Add-many feature rapidly creates many additional accurate trackers after an initial solve, perfect for creating dense tracker-based meshes.
  • "Coalesce" engine to find and combine co-located trackers, especially handy for green-screen shots (using SynthEyes existing green-screen tracker).
  • Multithreaded image prefetch and read-ahead to optimize performance, especially with multi-core processors and RAID drives.
  • New Vue 6 Infinite exporter.
  • Many user-interface improvements, including expanded key equivalents, click-on/click-off mouse mode, and floating camera view.

SynthEyes was used in this year's Oscar-winning or -nominated Pan's Labyrinth, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Apocalypto, and Pursuit of Happyness, plus recent features such as Zodiac, The Reaping, Bridge to Terabithia, Charlotte's Web, Deja Vu, and Casino Royale.

SynthEyes runs on Windows XP and Vista, or under Mac OS X 10.3.x or later on Intel Mac, G5, and G4 processors. A native 64-bit Windows XP/Vista Pro 64 version is also available at a $50 premium. SynthEyes exports to 25+ common animation and compositing packages.

SynthEyes 2007½ is priced at $399 and is available now. The 2007½ update is free to existing 2007 customers. SynthEyes 2004 customers can upgrade to 2007½ for $149, SynthEyes 2006/2006½ customers can upgrade for $99. Volume and educational-institution discounts are available.
