Hi
Im looking at using some form of 35mm adapter (with a z1 camera) on an upcoming film im shooting and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with using these and comping cg into the footage.
I hear they (especially the cheaper diy versions which are probably the only ones in our price range) have alot of barrel distortion and other loss of quality issues, im wondering whether this would cause tracking the shots to be a nightmare?
Also a fair few of the shots will be in low light conditions.
Many thanks

Hi,
I shot a promo last year using a mini 35 on a panasonic hvx2000 and then put in a 3d helicopter in in post with no problems. It has a 2 stop loss.
I've also shot quite a few promos with the movietube which is good, though it does have a 2 stop loss as well. Though I've read that the newer one has no stop loss.
I have heard good things about the letus, though I've not used it - it loses only half a stop.
A problem with some of the cheaper ones is they invert the image(none of the above do) which can make shooting problematic.
Another issue to be aware of is that adding a lens adaptor increases the length of the whole unit - camera->standard lens->adaptor->35mm lens. The movie tube is better size wise than the others as the camera is tilted up which reduces overall length a bit.
The length isn't an much of an issue if you are on a tripod but doing handheld stuff can be an issue because the viewfinders of HDV/DV cameras are a the back and with the whole shebang sitting on your shoulder the built in screens end up being in a not ideal position to operate - one set up is to mount a separate monitor at the front end of the bars .
