In times past, I have done very sophisticated high-order research-level lens calibrations. But the catch is that in order to set them up accurately, you have to run a lab-bench lens & camera calibration using a full grid of points imaged at different distances from the camera.
I rate the odds of anything like this happening in a production environment as near zero, hence a very simple calibration model.
To handle your odd few shots, you can undistort the footage in whatever software is convenient. For example, there has been some Shake expressions for undistortion posted on the forum in the past. Suggest you take those and modify them further to best approximate your particular footage, taking into account whatever information about the distortion you may be able to get from the lens manufacturer, if known.
If you are dealing with anamorphic lenses, you may do better temporarily changing the footage to the raw aspect ratio (ie just by entering it in the shot setup dialog) and undistorting at that aspect. |
