Guys
Say I want shoot some video to take into consideration of a cgi helicopter flying past. So I shoot my video, making sure I video stuff on the ground and nearby buildings. This will let me get a good solid manual track and set up a coordinate system.
However if during the shot I use my camera to follow this as yet not existing helicopter and raise my camera skyward, how will I have a track that I can use if the sky has nothing to track?
Am I making this more difficult in my head than I have to?

| Another question to ask is: if you get everything completely out of the shot except the sky, how is the audience supposed to tell what they're looking at? If you, a human, cannot "solve" a shot in your own mind, how can you expect the computer to? |

Hey...thanks for replying.
I have not explained myself too well. The camera was [in my head]simply tracking the flight path of where a cgi element would be, and in doing so the majority of the trackers would be out of the frame near the end. In the past this has screwed up what has been a solid, up until that point, solve.
I'll get on with it anyway and post back if/what problems I run into. |

| Hmmm... well the only solution I can think of is either to fudge the results by hand where a solve isn't possible, or put something in the shot like some ping pong balls on stands so they'll be visible, and just paint them out in post. Other than that, I'm afraid there's not much else that can be done. |

| Best thing is make sure you do it on a day with clouds. Ones that will give you good trackle points rather than generally overcast |
