Good morning all, long time no post.
I'm back to working with Syntheyes 2008 and after spending the last two days doing some basic work found something odd.
I have two scenes, the second simply a saved version of the first that I wanted to use to explore stabilizing the shot. After working with some motion and rotation stabilization I noticed that the hpix error was .7823, while the other (original) scene was 1.2595. I've double checked both scenes, they have the same # of trackers, same constraints, same origin points, etc. I have no idea how I got this better solve and was wondering if stabilizing a shot can effect the quality of the solve? (it's a handheld moving shot of a room)
If anyone else has a wild guess as to what may have led to a better solve I'd love to hear it. I've attempted to take my first scene, resave it and then redo the stabilization but haven't gotten the better solve hpix # yet. I'll be working on it today.
Thanks,
~ JamesCG |

Firstly, you must understand that the hpix value really has no bearing on how "good" your solve is. All it is is the mean distance between 2d trackers and their 3d counterparts. If your 2d tracks are off, it may say low error, but it still isn't right.
Stabilizing the footage and applying it to trackers may seem to lower the hpix value, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is a more accurate solve. |
