| i was listening to a vfx podcast and they mentioned they used syntheyes on district 9. they were talking about pincushion distortion and "modeling" it. what does that mean? modeling pincushion distortion? |

pincuishin distortion is not any special distortion, it's just the opposite of barrel so corners are pulled out in image and it's understorting by pulling corners in... it's actually cool because you don't need fit scaling or expanding when udistorting plates... We got in 95% of shots on current show...
I didn't listen to it yet but I will guess:
by modeling it they just mean finding the value
of course they may be much more to it, you never know...
