Hi Russ, i am a bit confused & just need you to clarify whether the Sony PMW-EX1 XDCAM Camcorder is suitable for matchmoving with Syntheyes.
Thanks.

CCD? yes
CMOS? no
Check the spec sheet

You can get perfectly usable results out of CMOS if not so much is happening, but geometric stability of the scene is suspect in complex situations.

One reason I what to buy the Sony PMW-EX1 was the LCD reading of the focal length. I was going for the Canon X1-HD with the manual lens reading, but the Sony does 1920 x 1080p. Now I'm second guessing the 3 1/2 CMOS verses the 3 1/3 CCD?

When you are measuring the distance of the shot, is it to the lens or to the filmback in the camera?

On the Matchmoving 101 video he shows the GL2 which I have. He gives the height and width of one 1/4 CCD chip. He is showing it on Maya.
The reason for 3 chips, is because one is red, another is green and another blue. The reverse image on the filmback of the shot in the lens is shown to be on the rectangle with a the hypotenuse of 1/4 (~the old tube).
Question: How does the 3 1/4 chips work into the picture or one chip per color. Are they on top of each other or side by side?
