Motion 3 in 3-D Walk-through
SynthEyes can export to Motion 3 as a 3-D scene. Not only cameras and trackers can be exported, but planes as well, which appear as Drop Zones in Motion. A special script in SynthEyes adjusts the aspect-ratio of planes in SynthEyes to simplify handling in Motion.
Due to the display area required for this tutorial, it is available only as a Quicktime.
Notes:
- Important note: As of 6 August 2008, Motion 3 does not display 3-D camera tracks correctly unless the pixel aspect ratio is 1.0 exactly. HD resolutions at 1920 x 1080 and 1280 x 720 are fine, but 720 x 480 DV will have a small insidious drift, especially visible on longer shots. Apple is currently investigating this issue and a fix or work-around is expected.
- The video is 5:06 and 6.9 MB long. Check out all the other tutorials and the manual too (after downloading the demo version).
- You can download a Motion 3 ZIP file with the sni file, the motion export, and a compressed version of the source. Note that you will have to reestablish connections to the media as the filenames will be different on your machine.
- Tutorial captured on Core Duo iMac.
