Diagnosing Exports Tutorial

Sometimes you might find that the 3-D trackers positions are not lining up correctly within your downstream application (3dsmax, maya, shake, etc), after you have exported from SynthEyes. Most often this is due to differences in the footage, or an incorrect aspect ratio. This tutorial shows what to look for to identify the cause.

One other thing... Be sure to check the exact frame rate, especially when footage is in the form of a QT or AVI. Some applications only handle integer frame rates—no fractional portion. Watch for 29.97 vs 30 fps, and 23.98 vs 24 fps. If everything matches at the beginning of the shot, but not at the end, this is likely the cause.

Notes:

  1. The video is 6:25 and 17.3 MB long.
  2. The tutorial mentions that if the aspect ratio is too small instead of two big, you'll see a horizontal shift instead of a vertical one. That's usually not right.... the error would just go in the opposite direction vertically. Instead, you can see horizontal offsets if the application is set to a vertical FOV instead of a horizontal one (a typical problem in XSI).
  3. Mac version is the same, done on a PC due to capture software availability.
