Which Way is Up?

SynthEyes lets you change the coordinate axis setting whenever you want, from Z-Up (max), to Y-Up (maya), to Y-Up-Left (Lightwave). This tutorial takes a further look.

You can download a Quicktime version of the tutorial (11 MB).

Important Note: SynthEyes versions 2007.5.1014 and earlier do not adjust to the coordinate system completely in one specific situation: if you use alignment lines on the Lens control panel, and are using the Y-Up (Maya) coordinate system (only!), then you should draw On-Z-Axis lines in the opposite direction. Although the axis of the lines is adjusted correctly, for this one specific case, the direction of the line must be reversed as well. This will be addressed in the next release.

Notes:

  1. The video is 3:30 and 9.4 MB long. Check out all the other tutorials and the manual too (after downloading the demo version).
  2. Mac version is the same, done on a PC (E6600 Core 2 Duo) due to capture software availability.
